DLS Sports Weekend Round-up 1/30/23

BASKETBALL

The Varsity basketball team fell to Brother Rice 55-46. Sophomore Phoenix Glassnor led the team with 21 pts, while senior Mike Sulaka and sophomore Armoni Portis both added 10 pts. The Pilots are now 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the league. 

The JV basketball team defeated Brother Rice 38-36. Isaiah Jones led the team with 19 points as they improved to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the league. 

The Freshmen team also came up short vs Brother Rice but all teams get back it Tuesday @ Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and Friday @ Home vs U of D.  Starting times for both dates are:

Freshmen @ 4 pm

JV @ 5:30 pm 

Varsity @ 7 pm.

WRESTLING

Congratulations to the wrestling team on winning the Romulus Rumble team tournament. The Pilots finished the day 5-0 outscoring their opponents 327-54. Also, congratulations to senior captain Nathan O’Donnell on earning his 100th career win. 

Our JV wrestlers competed at the Utica JV tournament. Congratulations, Evan Van Paemel and Pashk Daka, on placing 2nd.

The Pilots head into this week wrapping up their regular season with the Catholic League Tournament held next Saturday, 2/4 at Divine Child HS @ 9 am. The Varsity team currently sits at 27-5 on the season.

 

 

HOCKEY

Varsity Hockey lost 2-1 vs U of D Friday and 4-1 vs Trenton Saturday.  They get back on the ice and look to bounce back this weekend with back-to-back games.  Friday they will take on Grand Rapids Christian HS at 1:20 pm,  and Saturday against Traverse City Central @ 11:20 am. Both games will be played at Kennedy Ice Arena in Trenton.

Go get ‘em, Pilots! 

 

BOWLING

Friday night the varsity bowling team had a great team win (20-10) against rival Catholic Central. Andrew Nunnold stayed hot with games of 204 and 221 while Adam Geise fired a match-high 226. 

They also competed in the Tri-County Championships Saturday where they qualified 8th with a 12-game baker total of 2342. Then, the Pilots faced off against North Farmington in the round of 16 and ran into a buzzsaw. They lost both games 279-193 and 245-227 and finished 9th overall. They are currently 6-1 on the season.

JV bowling remained undefeated on the season with a 21-9 beat down of rival.  James Spicuzzi led the way with games of 201 and 244 while Jacob Fester followed with games of 199 and 222! They are now 7-0 for the season. 

The Pilots have one match this week, which will happen Wednesday, at 3:30 pm, against U of D @ Universal Lanes.

SWIMMING

The swim team was off over the weekend but will have a busy week coming up. First, they travel to Whitmore Lake High School on Tuesday to take compete against Gabriel Richard High School.  Then this Saturday the Pilots have the Macomb County Championship.
