DLS Sports Weekend Round-Up

Basketball

Your returning state champs started the year off right where they left off. Friday they defeated the #10 ranked team in the state, Michigan Collegiate, 57-48.  Seniors Nino Smith and Michael Sulaka led the way for the Pilots. Smith had 19 pts, 5 rbs, & 5 asts, while Sulaka had 15 pts, 7 rbs, & 3 blks. Sophomore Phoenix Glassnor also added 12 pts, 5 asts, and 2 stls. The Pilots bounced right back and played Ypsilanti Lincoln at Calihan Hall on Saturday afternoon. While playing two games within 24 hours can be rough on a team, our boys dominated right out of the gate.  They took it to Lincoln both on offense and defense ending with a final score of 64-23 win.

The Pilots, now 2-0, look to stay perfect this week where they have two more games scheduled. Tuesday is the home opener for all three Pilot basketball teams where they will take on Heritage High School: Freshmen @ 4PM, JV @ 5:30PM, and Varsity @ 7 PM. On Friday, all three teams are back in the Bill Fox Gymnasium against Flint Carman-Ainsworth: Freshmen @ 4PM, JV @ 5:30, and Varsity @ 7 PM.  Good luck, Pilots!

Hockey

This past Saturday, the Varsity Hockey team lost a tight one against Salem High School with a final score of 3-2. The two goals for the Pilots came from sophomores Dylan Blackwood and Anthony Winkler.

The guys get back on the ice this weekend as they travel up-north for two games. Friday they play at 7:00 pm and face off against Houghton High Schoo,l and Saturday they compete at  1:00 pm vs Calumet High School.  Safe travels and good luck, Pilots!

Swimming

Our Swimming team also opened up this past weekend in the Titan Relays at Warren Woods Tower.  The Pilots finished 3rd overall on the day! Very impressive considering this was the first swim competition for over half of the Pilots on the team.  This young group of swimmers will be exciting to keep an eye on as the year goes on! The Pilots will next compete in the Warrior Relays this coming Saturday at Waterford Kettering starting at 12 pm. Good luck, swimmers!
