Winter Sports Get Under Way

Winter sports at DLS are fast underway! Here are the scores and highlights from the weekend along with the events taking place this week.

Hockey

This past Saturday, the Varsity Hockey team defeated Dearborn Divine Child 8-0. Senior Captain Brady Des Madryl accounted for five points in the victory. The Pilots also got contributions from sophomores Dylan Blackwood and Colin Helgren, both netting their first career high school goals.

The Pilots improve to a 3-3 overall record. They continue their season at home on Thursday, December 8, with a divisional game against Grosse Pointe South @ Mt. Clemens Ice Arena. They are also away this Saturday vs Salem High School at 4:30 PM for the KLAA-MIHL Showcase.  Good luck, Pilots!

eSports:

The Smash Ultimate team came out victorious in the second round of the state playoffs, defeating Lamphere High School via a 2-1 series win. The Pilots advance to the quarterfinals and will play Bloomfield Hills High School on Tuesday for the right to go to Oakland University for the Final Four!  Play on, Pilots!

Sophomore Nolan Kas-Mikha opens his NBA 2K playoff run on Monday against Little Flower High School (NY). Senior Matino Kas-Mikha received a first-round bye.

Basketball

The Varsity Basketball team had a scrimmage yesterday against Warren Lincoln High School where they fell short 72-52.  The team opens up the regular season this weekend with back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday.   Friday they will take on Michigan Collegiate High School @ North Farmington High School at 6:30 PM. Then on Saturday, they face up against Ypsilanti Lincoln High School in the CHSL Showcase which will take place at Calihan Hall beginning at 1:30 PM. Good luck Pilots!

In the round of 32 he defeated Chase Kapraun of Chippewa Valley 211-204, but in the round of 16 Drew fell short to Micah Francis 223-202. Junior Adam Geise had a solid day but just missed match play by 3 pins and finished in 34th place.

For the JV team, freshman Jerome Adragna finished in the top 16, while freshmen James Spicuzzi and Jacob Fester both finished in the top 32.  Spicuzzi received a medal for having his qualifying score of 753 in the top 10 (8th overall).  Good work, Pilots!

Our bowlers stay busy this week playing Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Monday they have the CHSL Singles Event and  Wednesday they take on Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. Both of these contests take place @ Woodland Lanes at 3:30 PM.  Saturday they begin at 8:00 AM where the Pilots will compete in the Cougar Classic at Imperial Lanes.
