On Saturday, De La Salle Collegiate (3-2) traveled to Sterling Lanes for the Macomb County team championship. 

The Pilots qualified in 11th position after 14 baker games, and faced off against Macomb L'Anse Creuse North in the round of 16. It came down to the final ball, but junior Drew Gohlke was able to convert the three, six and nine spare to win by one pin, 549-548. 

Then, in the round of eight, the Purple and Gold squared off with the No. 3 seed Utica Eisenhower, and once again, it came down to the final frame -- with the same result. De La Salle snuck out a 549-542 win. 

Lastly, in the Final Four round, the Pilots took on the No. 2 seed in Macomb Dakota. It was there where the Pilots' run at the county championship came to an end. They lost to the Cougars, the eventual champions, 615-504. And, in the consolation match, DLS lost to the No. 1 seed St. Clair Shores Lakeview, 613-532.

Subsequently, the Purple and Gold recorded a fourth-place finish at the tournament.  

Fast-forward to Sunday and the Macomb County Championship singles event. Seniors Matthew Lachajewski and Gage Battle, along with Gohlke, each qualified for the round of 32. 

Gohlke qualified second, with games of 266, 205, 226 and 245, good for a total of 942. 

Meanwhile, Lachajewski qualified 14th, with a four-game total of 838, and Battle qualified 30th, with a four-game total of 791.

All three student-athletes went on to lose their first-round matches.

Next up for the Purple and Gold is a match with Catholic League rival Birmingham Brother Rice Tuesday. The meet is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Sterling Lanes.
