Varsity
De La Salle Collegiate 68, Canton 33: Junior Michael Sulaka led the way offensively for the Pilots (3-0) for the third straight game, finishing with 20 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Additionally, senior Tamario Adley recorded 12 points and seven steals. Freshman Phoenix Glassnor and junior Triston Nichols also each scored nine points in the contest.
Next up for the Purple and Gold is a contest Saturday at Cornerstone University against West Ottawa High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Junior varsity
De La Salle 55, Canton 50: Freshman Armoni Portis led the Pilots (3-0) with 15 points. Meanwhile, sophomore Nicholas Speiser had 11 points, sophomore Dylan Trondle finished with 10 points and freshman Braeden Holder scored nine points in the De La Salle victory.
Next up for the Pilots is a non-conference matchup with Detroit Cass Tech Thursday at the Bill Fox Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
Freshman
De La Salle 56, Canton 23: Ethan Hamilton won the team’s annual “Hardhat” award, handed out to the hardest-working De La Salle player in each game. He finished with a team-high eight steals in the De La Salle victory.
Next up for the Purple and Gold (3-0) is a non-conference contest with Clinton Twp. Chippewa Valley Tuesday at the Bill Fox Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
Bowling
Varsity
After losing the first “Baker” game and then winning the second one, De La Salle captured its first regular season win, and jumped out to a commanding 14-5 lead against the Detroit U-D Jesuit Cubs.
The Pilots just needed 1.5 points to secure their second victory of the season in game No. 2. However, they struggled down the stretch, and the Cubs proceeded to sweep the Pilots. And, with the sweep, U-D Jesuit won the match.
During this matchup with the Cubs, the Purple and Gold recorded their high Baker game of the season, with a score of 235.
Additionally, junior Drew Gohlke recorded his Catholic League-best game of 234. Meanwhile, senior Gage Battle, bowling in his first varsity meet of the season, shot a 211.
Next up for the Pilots (1-1, 1-1 Catholic League) is the Swami Baker Tournament, taking place at Imperial Lanes on Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
