More About ๐ Exciting News for Pilot Athletics Fans! ๐Colin McIntyre qualifies for Varsity State Powerlifting Meet
It takes a lot of hours, days and years of determination to achieve what senior Colin McIntyre did on Jan. 20 … earning a first-place win in the Oxford Regional State Qualifier Powerlifting Competition! At the state qualifier event Jan. 20, Colin competed in the 242-lb. weight class (while actually weighing 230 lbs.). He won his weight class by a margin of 300 lbs.! With at least a hundred competitors, his overall combined lifts totaled 1,400 lbs. It was the most weight lifted, including more than the 275-lb. and 294-lb. classes. The win qualified him to compete – and to represent De La Salle Collegiate – at the Varsity State Powerlifting Meet in Lake Orion on March 9. What’s an anniversary you don’t hear about too often? This season will mark the 70th year of swim at De La Salle Collegiate! Coach Jim Singelyn, ’90, took over the swim program and has been its coach since fall 2009, when he returned to Michigan from Florida to help out his parents. Boys Varsity FootballIt was Catholic League Central Division football at its finest between De La Salle Collegiate and Birmingham Brother Rice Friday night at Lawrence Tech University. After four quarters of hard hitting and intense physicality from both sides, the Pilots (3-0, 1-0 Catholic League Central Division) emerged victorious, 21-16. Even though it wasn't the best played game for the Pilots, it was just the way that De La Salle head man Dan Rohn wanted to start off Catholic League play. "Sometimes, you don't play your best football and still find a way to win a game. And, that to me is a character-building experience," Rohn said. "You know, we had a long time off (did not play an opponent in Week 3), and we made a lot of mistakes tonight. Our offense gave up nine of those 16 points. I was really impressed with our defense. It carried us tonight. Sometimes, it's just going to be like that. But, at the end of the day, this is still the way you want to begin
